Getting Oakland Ready For Me

Grand Lake Theatre December 2021

Grand Lake Theatre

Greetings Kings & Queens,

The journey has begun. It’s time to put in the work and I’m excited about it. While a lot of people are deep in hibernation season with their favorite sweats & a blanket, winter racers are out hitting the pavement getting their training miles in. As I prepare for the Oakland Marathon which takes place in March 2022, I knew I needed to do some regular runs in Oakland to get used to the elevation changes.

All Weather Runners

Today I took a cold rainy run. I began at Lakeshore Cafe and ran along the Lake Merritt trail. Once I got to Grand, I ran North until I took a slight right on Fairview which is where the hills began.

These hills are no joke!

I’ll admit, that I got a little lost in the hills, but just kept running through it until something looked familiar. I had run this area recently with a friend and a client of mine, but still managed to stumble on some pretty awesome views. It was raining on and off. Outside of a handful of dog walkers and a couple of other all weather runners, it was quiet & peaceful.

Rainy Wednesday morning run.

The final stats ended with 6.4 miles complete at an average pace of 8:19/mi. After a quick stretching routine and body assessment, I was heading home to rejoin the family for breakfast, board games and a little house cleaning.

Our store is closed down until January 17, 2022 for a little R&R but race training transcend vacation time. When my family goes on vacation, I check the weather, pack accordingly, find some routes and hit the pavement.

This is the life we live and I personally wouldn’t trade it for the world. This is my chosen path. My destination is clear. I have a plan in place with room for life to happen. I’m thankful for the miles that are behind me and I feel prepared for the miles ahead. I’m learning things about myself in every step, correcting & strengthening what needs to be addressed. I’m working on my breathing as well as my posture. My runs have turned into more of a meditation/body scanning device. I’m blessed to have the capability to do this and I’m thankful.

Starting now through the 7th of January, training plan prices will be 25% off. If your goal is the Oakland running festival in March, there’s plenty of time to train for a 5k, 10k, and maybe a half depending on your current fitness level. We’ll start with an initial video conference to assess your goals and life patterns to set you up for optimal success. Custom plans take about a week to create, so the sooner you order, the sooner we can help you make more intentional, calculated and fruitful steps towards your goals.

I’m thankful for the journey and I’m thankful to share it. Thank you for taking the time to read it. Until next time,

Keep Pursuing
